This year, the only (mostly) open weekday we have is Friday. So I decided that each Friday morning, we’d have an adventure. I got the idea from another mom at church who did something similar when her (now school-aged) children were younger.
I use the word adventure loosely. It could be a hike or trip to a museum, or it might mean a picnic at the playground. We’re somewhat restricted by geography because Linnea has speech on Friday afternoons.
For today’s adventure we went apple picking. It was my first time, and I can definitely say it’s much, much easier than strawberry picking, which Jon and I have done every summer since we met. The kids had a blast, and Linnea really wants to make an apple pie. Having never made a pie before, it feels very ambitious. Any recipe recommendations? What’s the best resource for making a pie crust?
I’m also looking for adventure suggestions for the Baltimore/DC area. Here are some of the options I’ve already got on our list:
|Carrie Murray Nature Center||Patterson Park|
|Irvine Nature Center||Cylburn Arboretum|
|B&O Railroad Museum||Accokeek (big trip!)|
|Streetcar Museum||Science Center|
|Museum of Dentistry|
We also might decide to do some bigger art projects, such as papier-mâché, for our adventure–especially on days when the weather is bad. Any thoughts there would be welcome, too.
