Although I’m a pretty good cook, I don’t have a lot of baking experience. So I followed my dear friend (and gourmet cook) Minty’s instructions. She recommended using Martha Stewart’s pâte brisée recipe, which was as easy as promised. Even though I still need to work on my dough-handling skills, it seems as though my apple pie has turned out well. I’ll find out in about an hour.
Linnea was thrilled to be able to help. While she was stirring the apple mixture, Jon caught her licking the spoon and preparing ready to return it to the bowl. She protested: “But I wasn’t licking it. I was just touching my tongue to it!” Hmmmm . . . For those of you who have ever received food from me, don’t worry! We follow strict hygiene standards when preparing things for others.
Jonas was too busy playing with his trucks to be bothered with baking. Then, just as I was putting on the top layer, he decided he wanted in on the action. So I let him use a fork to decorate the edges. He started getting a tad too forceful at the end, so I needed to step in.
If this one turns out well, I’m going to make a Warm Apple-Buttermilk Custard Pie later this week. I’m looking forward to trying more baking!
