The last time we went to the library, Linnea picked out a Junie B. Jones book. Based on the title, which was Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus, I was less than thrilled, but I didn’t want to discourage her from choosing books.
I can’t stand it! And I’m not the only one. Check out this article.
We’re about halfway through, and then we’re moving on to Ramona the Pest.
I wonder why I’m okay with “pest” in that title, but I’m bothered by Junie B.’s frequent use of “stupid” and “hate” to describe how she feels about things. Why do I find Phronsie’s grammar mistakes endearing in Five Little Peppers and How They Grew, but the ones in Junie B. Jones make my skin crawl?
I know this is just the beginning. Let’s just hope that the Twilight books are no longer popular when Linnea is old enough to be interested in them.
